Out with the Old, In with the New

We are in the process of stripping out sections of intermediates that have become contaminated with bentgrass. Over the years, the bentgrass has started to creep into our intermediates but has not found it's way into the primary rough yet.  We are in an ideal situation that we can contain the bentgrass before it gets out of control.  If we do not do something now, the bentgrass will take over the bluegrass rough and provide undesirable playing conditions, especially were it is allowed to grow 2 1/2"- 3".  We have begun a 3 year process of sodding out the worst sections and sodding new low mow bluegrass into these areas.  Once we have a pure stand of bluegrass again we will start a preventative program of spraying a product called Tenacity that will selectively take bentgrass out of bluegrass.  We will also be using this product on some of the smaller contaminated areas.
